Toxic Transactions ∗

چکیده
In Transactional Memory workloads, conflicts among transactions necessitate that some transactions either block, or else abort. The more common approach, aborting, is under-studied. Much effort has explored the use of schedulers and gatekeepers when the global abort rate is high. Handling short spikes in the abort rate, especially due to a single transaction with a high likelihood of conflict, is less well understood. We refer to such transactions as “toxic”, and suggest that they be prioritized, to prevent repeated aborts. To this end, we propose an Hourglass Contention Manager, which blocks some transactions at their begin point whenever a toxic transaction is detected. We show this mechanism to offer low overhead, and argue that it is an attractive alternative to existing contention management policies in transactional memory.

Metabolic adaptation of Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes CECT5344 to cyanide: role of malate-quinone oxidoreductases, aconitase and fumarase isoenzymes.
In general, the biodegradation of a toxic compound by a micro-organism requires the concurrence of, at least, two features in the biological system: first, the capability of the micro-organism to metabolize the toxic compound, and secondly, the capacity to resist its toxic effect. Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes CECT5344 is a bacterium used in the biodegradation of cyanide because it is capable t...

triphosphatase specific activities were decreased in all subcellular fractions during liver growth induced by both ‘toxic’ and ‘non-toxic’ compounds; however, the content of these enzymes in the whole liver did not change. These changes were due to the fact that proteins having no such enzymic activities were synthesized at a relatively higher rate and accumulated in the endoplasmic reticulum. ...
متن کاملArsenate recognition in aqueous media by a simple tripodal urea.
The environmentally important and toxic arsenate anion (HAsO4(2-)) is trapped in the cavity of a dimeric capsular assembly formed by a tripodal urea receptor. The selective binding of HAsO4(2-) over other anions is observed in a semi-aqueous solvent using a (1)H NMR titration study.

The cisplatin prodrug c,c,t-[Pt(NH3)2Cl2(O2CCH2CH2CO2)2](2-) (1) forms outer-sphere coordination interactions with non-toxic low MW PEI, which results in enhanced cancer cell killing, also achieved using PEI-coated AuNPs.
